Official Observer Certification

Roundnet Belgium

OVERVIEW

We are excited to introduce the Roundnet Belgium Official Observer Program, a key step in professionalising our sport in Belgium and ensuring consistency across all our tournaments. This certification program offers a great opportunity for Roundnet enthusiasts to contribute to the growth of the sport by becoming certified observers and earning compensation for their work during tournaments.

Observers play a crucial role in keeping matches fair and well-regulated, and as Roundnet grows, the need for trained, neutral third-party officials will continue to increase. If you’re interested in becoming an official observer, follow the steps below to earn your certification and start officiating matches at Roundnet Belgium tournaments.

HOW TO GET CERTIFIED?

1. Become a member of Roundnet Belgium

To become an official observer, you must first be a member of Roundnet Belgium. Membership will not only give you access to our events and rankings but also allow you to contribute to the community through officiating. Find out more about membership perks here, or use the button below to jump straight to Fwango.io to purchase your membership.

2. Learn the Rules and Observer Guidelines

Before stepping onto the court as an observer, it is crucial that you are well-versed in the Official Roundnet Rules and the IRF Officiating Guidelines. Observing matches can be fast-paced, requiring you to make quick, objective decisions under pressure. Familiarity with the rules ensures you can officiate effectively.

3. Attend the Certification Seminar

As part of the certification process, you must attend an Observer Seminar, which will be held several times throughout the year, led by an expert in the sport. These seminars will cover not only the rules but also practical scenarios, conflict resolution, and how to maintain neutrality as an observer. By attending, you’ll ensure a full understanding of your role and responsibilities during live matches. Keep an eye on our announcements for upcoming seminar dates.

4. Pass the Certification Test

After attending the seminar, you will be required to pass a certification exam that tests your knowledge of the rules and officiating guidelines. This ensures that all certified observers have a thorough understanding of the game and can apply the rules correctly. Take the test below:

5. Start observing and Earn Compensation

Once you’ve passed the test, you’ll be certified to begin officiating at Roundnet Belgium tournaments. However, since experience is crucial, you will start receiving compensation after observing at least 5 sets. This ensures that all observers are well-prepared and capable of making the right calls under pressure.

Once you reach this threshold, our payment structure is as follows:

  • 1 set observed = €1

  • 2-set match observed = €3
  • 3-set match observed = €5

Ready To Get Started?

At each tournament, you’ll need to check in at the designated Observer Desk before your first game. There, you will collect your official observer shirt, which you will wear while officiating. After the match, return the shirt to the Tournament Director (TD), who will verify the number of matches you’ve observed. Payments for observed matches will be processed later based on this verification.
